Diary of a Parrot

The Macaw formerly known as Billy

by Maggie

Well I was called Billy, but now I'm called "Big Bird", well I suppose being a Blue and Gold Macaw this does give me more street cred!! I started off life 2 years ago with a family of 2 adults and 3 kids. I had a ball. I stressed them out. They ran around like demented demons shouting at me.

Well it was fun to begin with but as the weeks went on I didn't think it was fun anymore. I remember thinking there must be more to life than this. No one said anything nice and I felt alone. One day two people came, a man and woman. They looked at me and she said, "oh, she's beautiful". She did sound nice. She was quiet and didn''t shout.

She came up to me and spoke. I gave her a nice big squawk. She didn't flinch. Well what's my next move? I didn't have long to wait. I was removed from my cage and placed in a box. My cage dismantled. I went on her lap in this box. It seemed forever but later that day I was back in my cage, in a different place. Well what are those two dudes over there? I don't believe it, a budgie and a cockatiel. Oh, can things get worse?. All of a sudden the budgie talks. Just like them!! I don't know what to make of this. We will have to see!!

I have a pretty good nights sleep. The budgie shuts up. The lady comes to see me the next morning. She says "Hello, I'm Mummy". Is she for real? Anyhow the weeks go on. Things are different. They get on so well together. The other birds fly around the living room. So what the hell, I'll go for it. I flew, wonderful, so I flew to her. She is nice. She says kiss so I do, I like this house!! "Hello" I say, she kisses me back.
